I have finally got round to looking through a bag of stones that I have collected over the last few years of rooting around in the bottom of jewellery cabinets and looking for bits & bobs, I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about this stone I have picked out.
Thanks aura
Looks like a lab created blue spinel to me. Google blue spinel and look at the images.
Ok I will check it out thanks
You could be right, is there a way to tell for sure?
The only way you will know for sure is to show it to a gemologist. I have a ring with a similar stone that I know 100% is a spinel. I have posted it in show and tell so you can look at it. As for your stone I would say I'm 70% confident if that's worth anything.
Thanks Franca I will try and take it somewhere but I have finds that have been sitting in boxes and never seem to take them anywhere LOL, I think I just like finding stuff.
I have an idea for you steptoe1. There are thousands of lapidary clubs all across the country. There's probably one close to you. I think it would be really fun for you and them if you brought your collection in and showed it to them. Just google "lapidary club" and your zip code and call them up. I joined one briefly in my area, but had to quit soon after for health reasons. They were really nice people who are hobbyist, but knowledgeable hobbyists. Your local club could probably tell you everything you want to know about your collection. BTW i have a black cat too.
Thanks Franca that is a great idea and I will definitely try that as I have loads and hate rolling up to jewellers with finds without knowing what you have. Black cats are loyal and bring good luck, your lucky to have one.
Thanks Karen,Brunswick
