I have finally got round to looking through a bag of stones that I have collected over the last few years of rooting around in the bottom of jewellery cabinets and looking for bits & bobs, I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about this stone I have picked out.
Thanks cpo,aura
Could this be a cornflower blue ceylon sapphire ?
I am sorry to say that it is highly unlikely. Sapphire and ruby (corundum) have a hardness rating of 9 on the Mohs scale. Your photos show the edges of the facets on this stone seem to have many small chips, and that wouldn't happen to a hard stone.
You should google how to tell real faceted stones from glass, from acrylic, etc. It's pretty difficult for the rest of us, as we only have pictures to look at.
Thanks noob I will have to learn more now that I am finally cleaning & trying to sort out all these old stones.
Might be London Blue Topaz
I have heard about that stone a little while ago, I think I have a ring with the same stones, in silver
