An Antique French Empire Mahogany Vitrine, With Fine Egyptian Gilt Bronze Mounts. The first 2 taken with 90's miniature camera so not the best quality photos.
The Empire Gilded Bronze mounts are of the finest quality. This piece with glazed glass side panels is one of the heaviest pieces of furniture that I have ever lifted for its size. 42 inches wide, 40 inches high and 21 1/2 inches deep, this is before we went metric in measure. The whole piece is very heavy and good quality mahogany, no veneers used here. This and a massive sevres vase I got from Ed Mirvish early March in 2000. I got to know him when he was in his eighties.
This Empire Mahogany Vitrine came from the Collection of Mr. Ed Mirvish of considerable fame and was from his magnificent Ed Mirvish Restaurant collection. I used to go to Old Eds sitting always near the statue shown, which was one of the finest Restaurants in Toronto, and his group of restaurants all together formed THE FINEST Restaurant antique grouping in the entire world, entirely decorated with antiques of the finest caliber. I hope to show some of the scenarios with photos of the restaurant next in some posts. The 3rd photo is an old photo I have of this incredible place of Old Eds alone with million dollar items in plain view in about 1969. These restauants were mainly old bronze foundries before and lined the entire long block which he owned far from his store.
Some of the photos that I previously have posted on this site show this vitrine in situ in my home !
