My father has had this guy in his basement office for years. He liked the statue and bought it from an acquaintance years ago. The gentleman told him that he believed he was a cigar store Indian.
He stands at approximately 62" tall and is made of paper mache. I have contacted several American Indian experts and collectors of cigar store Indians in hopes of learning more about the history of the statue. Some believe he was used for cigar store advertising and some say no due to the fact that he is made of paper mache.
I would be interested in any information or history one might have about this guy. The curiosity is killing all of us kids!
Welcome to CW Maple42, and good luck with this piece, I know a lot of people that would love to have it, no mater what it was made for! :^)
Excellent advertising display . He could be repaired easily I wonder what he held in his hand . He did not necessarily advertise Cigars he could have been in a trading post and sold anything . Love him and I would not rule out that he held some cigars :-)
