This item has an 'army green' webbing belt, with a strap that seems intended to go between the legs. The 'buckle' is egg-shaped metal with a hammered finish, flat on the back with hooks for the straps. I found this, wrapped in a paper bag, tucked into the rafters of the basement of a hundred year old house. It was obvious that it was being hidden. No one has been able to identify it, but based on its secrecy, I assume it was something illicit.
It isn't 100 years old nor is it illicit. It is a hernia truss.
I knew that it wasn't 100 years old--but the house was. Interesting--I assumed that it was something medical. Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea how old it may be?

Age is difficult but probably pre 1950. A company called excelsior made them of this type material with one and two pressure balls on them. They originally sold for around $4 and are worth less today. Perhaps the owner lifted weights etc. in the basement and kept this down there.
