This button was found while metal detecting in the backyard of a Montgomery, NJ home. The homeowner did not recognize the button and we were wondering if it had any historical significance. The home was built in the 1960's as part of a development. It is metal and is about 2cm in diameter.

This is a mystery indeed. It looks like a fairly basic livery uniform button, but it wouldn't have holes in it. They are always shank buttons. This one may have broken and been altered later, but that is unlikely too since broken buttons were almost always replaced with like ones. If it is in original condition it might be more recent and of low quality.
