Hi got it from a friend around the Mexican and Texas border. I belive its mostly metal on the oust side and wood in the inside. Dont know much about its history. But he did had a adventure he told me when they dug it out. I do know their was some kind of bills or deeds becuse of some small pices still stuck on top in the inside. Would like to see if anyone can identify it for me.

Awesome trunk, love the embossed tin, have not seen these patterns, kind of a unique design, with the top wood slat being back away from the edge, gives it a different look, this is not a chest, this is a travel trunk and where sold in catalogs as fancy metal trunks. great find, greendog.

Greendog that is so awsome didn't know anything about it. I do know it had some kind of bills os deeds becuse of the small pices on the lid. do you think its worth getting it appraised.

You could but, In this condition its probably not worth more than 100 to 200 at best, its from around early to mid 1800's, I believe this is a cross slat design with wood slats running front to back as well as end to end on the top, patented in 1880 by C.A. Taylor. I don't see any latches on the front of the trunk, doesn't look like it had any, kind of strange, I would like to see pictures of the inside if possible. this would be a great restoration project, love it greendog.

Really unusual trunk which is just great to see! My first thought without reading anything was "Spanish trunk" -- just has the different feel to it and use of materials - design. (just speculation because I can't base it on more than that!) I've seen the star pattern or at least of version of it before but never those waves... I wonder if those were confederate bills pasted on the interior at one point -- might be just enough of a section to compare. I agree with greendog it would be a great trunk to restore due to its unusual design and features. Total eye candy thanks for the post!!

Amanda 78 this is a beautiful trunk I myself and recently just gotten into restoring them and this would be a great one to do. I hope you take it further but if not leave it how it is and it is still a treasure great find.
