I have always loved old trunks. Ive always wanted one just to have look awesome as a decoration and wonder of the history it could tell. The other day I just happen to see one sitting in front of a house for sale. I had to have it. However I am a trunk idiot. I dont know what I bought. All I know is that it looks awesome! I would like some help on age? origin? What the picture on the inside of the lid means? The picture looks like a midevil knight and a maiden. This trunk even has little wheels on the bottom. Im not looking to restore. Its awesome the way it is. Can anyone help this idiot? Thanks!!!

It does look awesome. It looks like it's in pretty good shape, with a bit of cleaning it should be something that will have people saying "whoa, cool, where did you get that?". I'm afraid I can't tell you a date but I'd say it's safe to say it's well over 100 years old. The pic is just something they put in them, could have been any number of pics so it doesn't really have any meaning and just about all of these old things have little wheels on the bottom, at least at one time they did, they might have lost one or two over the years but it was pretty much standard issue back then. If you look around here and other places on the net you can learn a lot more about these and how to clean them up and take care of them. Enjoy your trunk and beware, they can be a little addictive.

Thanks for the comment! Yes I do feel a bit needy for another one! HA. I will have to research about the best way to clean it.

If you just want to clean off some of the grime and dirt, I use Murphy's oil soap and a soft brush, it cleans wood really good, after that hit your metal and wood with a good paste wax and buff. greendog
