wow! this trunk looks heavy, very thick looking boards, can't tell for sure but it doesn't look like it ever had compartments or a tray in it, most bottom boards in trunks run length wise, this trunk my have been built by an individual rather than a trunk factory, the slat clamps are hand made out of embossed tin rather than stamped or cast metal. who know's maybe it was made in mexico, never seen one like it, greendog.

Hi Greendog the claps holding the chest was but by my friend he didnt want loose the lide. What originaly would hold it was leather. But must of been torn down im guessing. I dought it was made in mexico. Becuse of the small pices of paper that are stuck on the top looks like US bills use to be in it. Wish i knew what treasure it had. Their were 2 other small ones he had mentioned to me but got distroyed when they dug them up and keep the small one wish i could tell you his story.

I see that, talking to Jim Cardoza at HMS Antiques, we believe this is a home made trunk, not factory, it's a mystery trunk, love it, greendog

Yes its a mystery indeed maybe one that Pancho Villa stole with some big bucks. My gut tells me they had to of used it to store money in it. And was stolen and dug up. So no one would find it. Until my friend came alonge thing is the guys who he tresure hunting with beat him up and left him thier. But they only left the chest. To what he told me. Still im in love with this treasure hope some day something comes up or get the pices left on the lid get looked up by a specialist.
