This Welz rose bowl type vase dates from the Art Deco era. It makes a pair with an identical example I have owned for many years, except that it is missing its brass frog. Perhaps I'll find one one day...so many of those frogs got lost, there must be a vast stockpile of them somewhere, rather like all the odd socks...
It measures 15.5 cm tall, 6.5 cm across the cut top rim, & 10.2 cm across the base. Made from cased pink spatter glass with the Vertical Lines pattern.
A random op shop find which I picked up immediately.
I love the shape, one I'd not seen before. At least the frog is one of the two common ones so you have a good chance!
Thanks so much, sklo42! That is good news about the frog - I shall live in hope...
I was pleasantly surprised to find this, just drifted into the shop with no expectations of finding anything, & there it was. The other one I bought a long time ago from an antiques shop. We must have got plenty of this shape here as I have also seen a few in green over the years.
I was going to say that I have the décor in an unusual colourway, but I see you've spotted it already......
This is a really nice shape and I notice a fleck of another colour - happens too often in Welz to be an accident??
Your green example is very unusual with the extra spots. But the plain type (just lines) in green turns up a fair bit in Australia...particularly in this rose bowl shape.
Many thanks, IanBrighton...& yes, I too have noticed the tendency of Welz spatters to have random flecks...I have a few examples. It seems to be a Welz quirk.
