I need some help finding info about this chest. It seems very old and heavy. The carving seems to depict a scene of figures worshiping someone or something. They are robed and bowing down. Any help would be appreciated.

My mother has a similar chest. It may be handcarved from India. My mother bought hers, along with many other carved pieces, like a hinged screen, in the Indian stores in Panama, back in the 60s.
I hope this gives you at least a starting point.

i have one almost identical to yours. the design on the edgeband is slightly different but, from the pictures, they appear very similar.
my father brought ours back from japan at the end of WWII and it's been with us since then.
he was in china and india but this was before pearl harbor, so i'm fairly sure it's japanese, possibly pre-war.
