Purchased this trunk from a person online it was covered in brown house paint. After stripping it and sanding it I sanded the wood and polished it up and this is the result. Quite proud of it but did I bring down the value by doing this? And can anyone tell me a year or date it would be from thanks
Nice work on your refinishing!! Your trunk is from around 1890 or thereabouts. With no label hard to say which maker. If it was painted over then you definitely increased its value. Welcome to Collectors Weekly!
Thank you for your input helped out so much!!! I am pleased to know that I did not totally ruin this piece of history!!! Love this site keep up the great work!!!
Hey Trunkjunky, I hear to many people worried about ruining the value of an old trunk, the fact is their are only a few brands of trunks that are worth any real money, and if you come across them in good original condition you should leave them alone. most of the trunks we come across, are beaten, battered, painted or defaced in some manor and are worth very little to begin with, until someone takes the time to refinish or restore it. You did the right thing, and it looks like you did a good job, well done, greendog.
Greendog thank you so much for your input it really puts my worries to rest and makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the compliment as well I did work hard on it and I'm very proud of it but I'm working on another one And Am grateful for your input I will showcase the one I'm working on probably next week hope to hear from you guys again thanks much respect
