(1 item)
This is an old key/wrench for the windows in my building. There is one person who has a key, which allows you to open the windows. The rest of us have windows that have been locked shut.
I would love to find out what this item is (window/lock brand? key/wrench type?) in order to get some copies. I can also take it to a machine shop, but I thought I would start here first.
Can anyone help? I would be deeply appreciative.
Match it with the teeth of a 1/4" drill chuck key. If they match, grind off the end.
Thanks, interesting suggestion. I am not sure if that would work, because the end is a circle with two nubs. It might work to grind off the end and part of what is left.
Can't you read the brand on the windows, so you can find a local supplier ? Sounds like a bad place to be in case of fire.
I can't see the window maker. The building is old, and I have no idea when the windows were installed. Indeed, I'd like to be able open them for many reasons, including safety.
Have you showed it to people who sell windows ?
The mystery has been solved by my neighbor. The key is a custodial window sash key. The building was a commercial space before being converted to residential. I've ordered a key, fingers crossed! Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
As far as I know, certain rooms (bedrooms, living areas) in the U.S. have to have windows that are easily and quickly opened in case of fire-- By Law. If you're in the U.S.... Even if everyone had a key, the building owner is awaiting a lawsuit when someone else realises this information in your residential building.
Good to know, thanks for the feedback!
