Helped a friend clean out his garage and found all these old thimbles. Does anyone know how to tell if they are of value? 1st picture is of the ceramic, or china set, 2nd is of the metal or silver set (which have state names on them). I'd like to have them appraised but I don't know if it's worth the time and money. HELLLP! THANKS

This website can get you started or just google "thimbles" and you will learn a lot. There are two types of value. First, do YOU enjoy collecting them? Do you want to obtain more and display them? Have you been to the places they represent? Is there a memory attached to each one? If you can answer "yes" to these questions the HURRAY, you are a collector and they have "value" to you. Second, is of course monetary value. If you have the thimble worn by Betsie Ross while sewing the first American flag you have monetary value.
Please be VERY careful. This small collection could grow to cover several walls in you home if you are not careful ! Good Luck.
thank you... they were given to me by a friend after my husband and i help clean out his old garage. so no i haven't collected them for myself.
Well, here's you chance to start! When your grandchildren ask why you have a whole room of thimbles you say, "A friend gave you the first ones and then it just grew and grew. Lincoln lived here and Washington lived there, and that one...Your Grandpa gave me that on our 25th wedding anniversity." Just have fun !
