With no intent to discredit Louis Vuitton, I must confess that there is something about a Goyard trunk that sets the brand apart. There is a certain extra elegance and character to every Goyard that I've worked on that is hard to define. They seem "lighter" yet just as strong as the LV, the color of the binding is just a bit more "leather" than an LV and the design of the "skin" seems so ahead of its time. Classy stuff. Being a lover of French made trunks, I will always go out of my way to work on them and always give them a warm welcome when they ask for my help.
When the above Goyard came into my shop needing just a relining, while I was slightly bummed to not be able to restore the exterior, I find working on any part of a Goyard to be fun. It did indeed have a bad case of mold deep into the joints of the piece and the quilt was stained and saggy. Using my magic "stripper in a bottle", I sprayed away then carefully peeled away the linen and ribbon and when to work. After removing all the junk, I hand sand, then put a foundation liner for starters before applying fabric. Thanks to the good book of Mr. Morse, the equation for spacing the tacks on the inner lid will never be lost and, being horrible at math in the first place, I nod in gratitude for his sharing of this magic. And there it is! A fine smelling Goyard with a clean suit and a family awaiting!

Wonderful job Randall as always.I agree with your assessment of the (Goyardine) pattern (so ahead of it's time).. They found perfection in that pattern. They mixed it with unwavering quality materials, added superior craftsmanship and never looked back.Companies today could learn much from this approach.Below are some links to shed some light on history and some images.

Thank you Drill! And thanks for sending those links too. I hadn't seen the shot of the storefront, how cool is that?! I had put a slew of pics of Goyards that I had worked on a disc quite a while ago and then, of course, lost the disc and my hardrive crashed at the same time too! Onwards through the fog....
