In our garage I found this very cool Japanese 416 One Yen 900 coin.
I know nothing about it.
It is heavy and big, I have no idea of the year, a ruff translation of the symbols looks like maybe 1890 ? not sure at all.
Has anyone seen one of these ?
Thanks
1 Yen Silver Fineness: 0.900
Weight: 26.96g = 416 grains. Diameter: ?38.6 mm
Three characters on the left: Dai Nippon Great Japan
Top two characters from left to right: Emperor Mutsuhito (Meiji) reigned 1867-1912
Reign years after Emperor`s name:
Two horizontal lines for number 2
+ character stands for number 10
Horizontal line stands for number 1
Year calculated: 2 x 10+1 = 21
Reign year is therefore 21
1867 (first reign year) + 21 = 1888
The character on far right (after the horizontal line for 1) is ``Nen`` meaning Year
