    How do you tell??
    Ivory or bone ??
Picked up at the local recycling centre for 20p...!
It's definatly not plastic ! & cold to touch..
All carved by someone very skilled I would say .
No markings on it that I can see yet .
As you can see it's not round but an odd ovalish shape & slightly thicker at the base than the top! And smaller in diameter..
    It's roughly 5" h x 2 1/2- 3" across the top..& hollow right through ?
Does anyone e know what it could be used for or is it just an ornamental object ??
The patterns are a dragon and what looks like a gecko !!
    I love it ! Any thoughts ?????
I'll add a picture of a mark I found in another post !!

piece of hollow elephant ivory tusk, even the shape is original, the lines inside have that criss cross thing. see what the rest says. Chinese maybe.

It's incredible SD! I'm so glad it was not destroyed and you saved it.
There are very strict laws about ivory these days, so if you got a receipt of purchase, keep it for provenance.
