OK, so I lied earlier, just a little bit. ;-) This little group of tools was also rescued from the dumpster yesterday, hiding in a (non-original) cardboard box together with a couple original 'instruction sheets' (not pictured) for them.

Likely consumer grade products intended for the "shade tree mechanic", these could together be used to perform one's own 'tune ups' on vehicles produced prior to, say, the early/mid 1980's. (when "technology" began to take over the control of internal engine functions with various computerized/non-adjustable settings and components, thus rendering these devices mostly obsolete) I'm guessing this set probably dates from the late 1960's, but don't know for sure.

[accidental semi-related rant: am I the *only* one bugged by the fact that a car only has to be ~25yrs old to be officially called "antique", where for most any other kind of item it takes twice to 4X that many years?? <grrr>]

The 4 devices are (clockwise from upper left in pic 1) a "neon timing light", "compression gauge", "remote starter switch", and "vacuum gauge". All of them should still function as intended for even a modern vehicle engine, though nowadays there aren't particularly any "adjustments" left to be changed, so for the most part all they could do is their own form of "show & tell". <sigh>

That style timing light worked great on my MGTD, when not in bright light. Can't find them now. I'm still looking.

I still use my old MAC TOOLS "Chrome" Inductive timing light :)
