Flea market find from this weekend. Beautiful flower brooch, rhinestones, pearl beads + interesting leaf stones (I thought that they could be hematite, but the stones are not magnetic - glass maybe?). Some stones are missing, but this can be corrected. There is some worn-off plating but the overall condition is very nice, and the design speaks to me!! I have never seen a Czech-marked brooch in this style, so its my first.

The brooch is marked CZECHOSLOV. - the signature is in tiny letters on one side of the pin mechanism - so tiny that I barely noticed it. Why is almost everything Czech marked on such difficult to see places is a mystery to me! Its almost as if they did not want their customers to find out!

As for the age - let the experts here decide. I will be thankful for your opinions, as usual. 1950s, 1960s? In my opinion the condition is too good for this to be an older piece.

I think you are correct both that the stone leaves are glass & that they mimic the look of hematite. Quite a complex piece, almost did not notice the one missing pearl, probably even more inconspicuous in person.

If this were the leafy sprig only, I would see it as likely to be 1960s. The rhinestone & pearl flowers have a much earlier feel, so maybe transitional late 50s - early 60s? You probably have a better feel for Czech jewelry fashion periods than most of the rest of us do.

I thought the tiny French marks on this one were just manufacturing imperfections until kyratango flogged me into giving them a harder look:

Thank you a lot, nutsabotas6 and cameosleuth!

@ cameosleuth - dont flatter me - I am only guessing most of the time here :DDDD

Me too. It's just that the more you learn, the better your guesses. For items like this, my best reference is my memory for the look of jewelry during my life as well as of pieces owned by my mother & grandmother. But that is fashion in the US; I cannot be sure that the same styles were fashionable at the same time in other places.

This piece is puzzling because it combines 2 very different styles, but of course has to date to the time of the more modern looking part.

Yes, I agree - it combines 2 different styles!! Pity it did not stay in the "older" line - but the outcome is beautiful.

This is very interesting, valentino97, do you think so? I like the idea of some czech company using older elements!!
