The Architectural Lighting Company was founded in 1961 by Peter Nelson. he is known for his outstanding minimalist designs made of aluminium with a precision engineered finished noted for their refined technical appearance. Have look at that cuboid switch blocks hand milled from solid aluminium… this is more than just a characteristic detail.
This is a very rare FA range VB/SC Spot clamp lamp. A classic piece of British design beautifully and precisely made out of solid aluminium. The position and angle of the lamp can be fully adjusted. Incredible attention to detail and fantastic engineered quality. Fine hand polished aluminium construction throughout switch mechanism cased in an never seen bevor aluminium housing. Characteristic for this Range are the cube switch blocks, which are hand milled from solid aluminium.
A peferct and timeless modern collectors item in very good condition some minor scratches.
Peter Nelson (1928 - 2009) was born in Austria and educated in England.
He spent the first part of his career working in the aeronautics industry, on the design and manufacture of cast aluminum passenger aircraft models. Together with Howard Hughes During he collaborated on the development of the triple-tailed, four-engined Lockheed Constellation aircraft. After he left left the aeronautical industry Nelson concentrated on lighting design and engineering, founding the company Architectural Lighting in 1961.
These sophisticated and minimalist lights were enthusiastically received when launched and were stocked in Habitat and Heals during the 1960s.
