These are our guard dogs : ) They are in fact original papier mache dogs used for the display of G&T gramophones in the shop windows over 100 years ago.

I immediately recognized these! I think it was the barber shop up town that used to have one of these in the window. I always wanted to walk past to look at it as a kid. Very neat!

Being in this good of shape and paper mache they could be worth much more than any of you 78 players! Hope so!

Isn't the RCA dog named Nipper?
    5. Saxymojo Saxymojo, 12 years ago
Berliner brought the painting of Nipper to America, Berliner, with the help of his partner Eldridge Johnson, made Nipper the official trademark for the Victor Talking Machine Company (the newly formed version of the American Gramophone Company, which had been forced to close down for legal reasons.) Nipper would travel the globe, becoming the company icon for not just the Victor Company in America, which would eventually evolve into RCA Victor, but also for HMV short for “His Master’s Voice” formerly known as Gramophone and Typewriter Company, (G&T) in Great Britain and JVC (Victor Company of Japan).

Value of Nipper? They are expensive if you can find one, maybe around 2k for a good one. Very hard to say for sure, I haven't seen many for sale.

I remember the RCA dog. My Father worked for RCA in the 1930's and it brings back great stories he told...thanks

I love these. My great uncle is the carver of the original. From Freemans, Pennsylvania Sale brochure, 11/15/09
"Herman Joseph Kleiner (1885-1973) and his son Herman Joseph Kleiner Jr. (1910- 1993) were master wood carvers. Born in Philadelphia, Mr Kleiner Sr. had a studio for many years on E. Firth St. His archectural interior work includes pediments in the Senate Chambers of the United Staes Capitol, chair rails in the White house and interior embellishments at the Bristish Embassy in Washington. Locally , Kleiner Sr's projects include the Valley Forge Memorial Chapel, athe bryn Athyn College Chapel and The Trinity Episcopal Church in Moorestown, New Jersey. Mr Kleiner, Sr's best known project was the carving of the figure of Nipper, the trademark "His Master's Voice, for the Victor Talking Machine Company.

I would love to find some of his work.

One on the right was made by Old King Cole Company in Canton Ohio. Value around $300 to $500 depending on condition.

The one on the left also, it has a label under the front paw. Cheers

Interesting, I have the dog to the right as well and have always wondered the date of creation. Mine doesn't have a label anymore. I'm guessing yours on the left is older by photos I've seen. I grew up in Canton Ohio were the Old King Cole had their shop.

I think that would be right, I am not sure of the year they were made, but I also thought the one on the left was the older of the two. Do you have photos of the shop where they were made? Cheers
