An old postcard circa 1910. This combines a couple of my interests of railroads along with areas where I have lived. I lived in the San Diego area for 2 years. When I revisit the area it seems familiar yet unfamiliar.
The motor car here is a gasoline powered railcar. Quick note that La Jolla is pronounced La Hoya. La Jolla is now the most upscale area in San Diego back then it was probably sparsely populated judging by the size of the motor car. It is a rare vehicle as most rail equipment was steam powered or electric.

Oh Mani, that railway, not that particular car but the railroad is still and goes all the way from Fullerton to San Diego. There are some great stops along the way Oceanside, Encinitas etc... And look, on the card they even spelled La Jola wrong...you are right fort, it's two L's. Even the train has the two L's on it! haha

Great post. The tide pools are amazing there and a gorgeous area to go scuba diving!

Thank you very much Manikan. I think everyone in the photo has passed on so it is a bit ahead of all of us.

Thank you very much Shareurpassion. I've been wanting to take the train down the coast sometime.
I didn't even notice they misspelled Ja Jolla. I like the sea lions and seals around there. The kids will have to find another beach.

If I’m not mistaken, there is still a bus/trolley making the same route.
San Diego is the only city other than my hometown where I actually kinda know my way around.
Very cool post card of people in very cool looking hot clothes...lol

Thank you very much Karenoke. I think the trolley that goes there now uses different tracks. There were and still are the old Santa Fe tracks which is probably what the old trolley used.

It is a McKeen car. The McKeen Company made 152 of them between 1905 and 1917.

That vehicle is a McKeen Motor Car, a gas mechanical self propelled railcar. They were not too successful and eventually a more reliable gas-electric technology took over. There are a couple preserved and a narrow gauge one that operates in a museum in Colorado.
