Husband inherited this watch from is Grandfather. It is a 1954 Movado Calendomatic (serial number is 2213) Switzerland 14 kt. It is engraved on the back - received it for 30 years of service at Doehler-Jarvis Corp. Looking for information on it and in my search curious of value the go from $200 to $3,500. What makes the difference in the price range? Will not sell, just curious.

Condition is everything. A restored movement but original, pristine case and dial are best.

Your watch is neat with the extra sweep hand it looks like a basic chronograph giving it added value. Are there some extra small buttons on the left side? Or maybe the stop watch is operated from pushing the stem.

Here is a 1946. Band is leather, but the dial appears the same.

Thank you for getting back to me. Roddyq - yes the small extra buttons are on the left when looking at it and the dial to change time is on the right. Does that have some sort of significance? SpiritBear - Condition yes is the key, there is no case or box to it. My husband wants to be able to wear it - so we are wondering if it is worth paying to clean it and restore? pw-collector - thanks for the link. I will check it out.

Hi nsn300z pw-collector added a great link, it may be worth the time to check with a watch repair store to restore it as it holds family memories. If you decide to restore it will be nice to see it all cleaned up. Enjoy your weekend

Few will touch a calendar watch anymore; you'd be looking at a few hundred at least. Every piece has to be taken apart and ultrasonically cleaned (imploding bubbles of air in water), reassembled, oiled in certain spots (with up to 3 different oils) and timed to perfection (+/- 1 minute a day is considered 'accurate') under various circumstances. Some parts may need replaced inside if there is sufficient wear.
You'll likely want the case polished and for sure a new crystal (go for glass or crystal, not acrylic).

Also, you may want to resurface the dial. You'd have to send that part out separately. Watch cleaners only work on movements.

Thanks SpiritBear! Interesting, where would I go for something like that. It is at the watch jeweler being cleaned right now. Thanks again.

Nice watch. This is just my opinion but I honestly think that if you priced from ebay auctions, I think that the time and day the auction closes has a whole lot to do with the final price. If it's a world wide auction, you are going to have some people sleeping, some could be driving in rush hour traffic, if it's a weekend, many people follow a schedule and won't veer off of it...lots of variables there. A friend of mine once told me too that even the day the auction closes has a lot to do with the final price.

Thank you sharurpassion. Did not realize that about auctions - thanks for the information. I am not looking to sell the watch but was just for knowledge sake was wondering what the watch was worth!

Thank you for all your comments and suggestions. I have added two new pictures of the watch after restoration. Thanks again!!

The leather band is a nice touch. After cleaning is it running good and keeping accurate time?
    14. nsn300z, 7 years ago
Roddyq, thanks and yes it runs like a charm. Also, does keep time. Glad he picked the leather band. What a treasure for him from his Grandfather.
