Sorry about the dusty shelf but I was having trouble finding WWI/II German item for German WWI/II day.
This is a 1/35 scale model by Tamiya. I prefer their models as the parts seem to go together the best and have good detail.
As to the actual vehicle upon which the model is based it is not a tank. This is because tank enthusiasts take great pleasure in saying something is not a tank when it does not meet the narrow definition of what can actually be called a tank. In this case it is an assault gun. It has an armored superstructure with 100mm thick frontal armor and a low velocity 150 mm gun. It was for taking out fortifications such as pillboxes. In reality it pretty much had to do the same thing as a tank which is why the specialized vehicles like this are no longer made. Anyway feel free to call it a tank.

PS for those of you in various online groups whenever the host goes off topic there are howls of protest. "That isn't a tank it is a tank destroyer! You are a (insert insult here)."

I'm told by Vincent this reminds him of an Elefant; basically a gun on tracks.
      Tank is good for me.

racer4four I just got an Elefant model which I have yet to build. The Brummbar is more like the Sturmtiger seen on the right in photo 4.

Lovely model tank, thanks for sharing. Afrika Korps sand camo coloured or just a bit rusty?
    5. fortapache fortapache, 7 years ago
Thank you very much Black Watch. This is the base color for German vehicles from 1943-45, it is called RAL 7028 (dark yellow). Afrika Corps used RAL 8000 (yellow brown/sand). The other base color would of course be Panzer Gray aka RAL 7021.
I weathered this model a bit, it is the 1944 version.
The RAL system is still used by Germany but they changed it a bit in a purge of all things WWII related.
