Found this today in a charity shop- it was only €3 and because of my addiction to little boxes I promptly bought it. What drew me in is it's beautiful design that reminds me of old chessboards. The inside is covered with red velvet and the lid is just blank with no mirror. the Question is, there's four narrow white panels on it's base, which are thin and rough to the touch- I'm curious to what these might be made of?Like some kind of bone, ivory etc? Would it be that old?

These are found all over the middle east in souks. A very popular tourist item. Many with the all wood inlay are from Syria.
