    No idea what this is. Found in my grandparent's basement. Both have passed away and my father had never seen this used. My grandfather was a mason, cobbler, dairy farmer, beef farmer and owned horses so I won't even guess what it's used for.

    Has "AMERICAN" stamped/cast on top metal piece.

    I would love to find out what it was for!

      Looks like there was a piece of wood, maybe a handle, where the rivets are.

      It is part of a wall-mounted, indoor, clothes drying rack. There would have been a 18"+/- wooden bar mounted on each of the rivets in the cast iron head. There was a provision for them to all hang down against the long wood piece or the head could be raised 90 degrees to horizontal and locked, and the bars spread like a fan, on which you would hang washed items to dry. Much of this one is missing.
