So,e type of cutting tool. It is 14" long and about 5" high with a handle that lifts up. There are words on the handle that looks like it says "The Prime Cutter by S. Lee (?)". Unsure if the last part is Lee or not. Found in the woods of Northern Maine.

I'm not an expert, but it appears to be a tobacco cutter by S. Lee in Taunton, Mass in the mid to late 1860's. It's missing the blade.

Expert or not RCassano I think you solved it. Lots of pictures in Google using your info.

Thanks. I'm not always accurate on these things, but I use the old "boolean" search techniques that all but died with the arrival of Google. It's interesting that it was found in Maine, especially northern Maine. I didn't know there was ever any tobacco production there. Nice find.
