Well, just another lousy morning at the flea market. I left after 45 minutes. I saw just about nothing but junk jewelry, department store ceramics, clothes and stuff from the cheap shops which are scattered around here. I bought this brooch from a dealer - have bought from her before. The photos of the marks are as good as it gets. I cleaned the brooch - it is silver with a gold wash - and have been told the mark is French. I looked at French silver maker marks but did not see this particular one. There is another mark on this brooch but it is impossible to get a decent photo of it. The brooch measures about 1 3/4 inches.
Thanks for any info!
Bonnie
That's a very pretty vermeil piece Bonnie, nice find
Nice find Bonnie!
French for sure, with boar's head, even if I can't decipher the other impossible to photograph mark.
The Maker's mark ends with a S, can't say what is the first letter (G? P? F?) there is something I can't see in the circle between the two letters...
Here is a site (in French...) with hundreds of maker's marks:

Still exploring, if you could identify this first letter I hope we'll find the maker :-)
Pascale - thanks!! I'll take a look through those marks next week. I doubt if I can get the mark any clearer, as I already cleaned it three times! :-P
Hiya Bonnie! Good to see you ;) The places around here are about the same...not much too look at or purchase. After new years tho they'll start bringing everything back out because it will be out with the old and in with the new. We all just happen to love, love that old stuff! Great brooch you found tho.
Very nice and interesting.
