I bought this Asian lacquer box that has coins embedded in it. I can’t figure out if it is chinese or Japanese. Or it’s age. What do you think? Thanks!

Beautiful detail work - what are the dimensions? Any markings inside or underneath, or interior details for usage? Looks like a travel kit of some sort...

It’s about 6 inches by 7 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches. It looks like a jewelry box maybe. I also have the key. No markings besides the two embedded coins and two embedded rectangle pieces. I’m not exactly sure what theses embedded items are or what year they were made. I can’t find them anywhere. It’s pretty beat up, cracked and the hinges are falling off.

this has to go to an expert a type of kanai maki Style ) but is this urishi ( lacquered) its dull but it probably is

the strange thing we got an strange combination of the Takara Zukushi =the the emblem of treasures , the fan is coming in in stead of the scroll or maybe it is a gakki (music instrument) ( poetic freedom)

cant read the rest maybe a time indication

the point we have to be committed to the maki design and the amount of hingis is the equivalent of the 7 treasures of buddha which is hopeful , because it could be related to mejji this way

and that is quite important for the value

this is hopefull , but i am not a expert in japanese stuff we need a second opinion for the kanji

      greetings waki

so second opinion is very important could make a rather substantial value ( late mejji versus vintage ware, and the kanji , so walk into a japanese restaurent and you will know and
