(367 items)
It took a couple years after the war before exports began arriving in the United States but once they started they found an insatiable market. By the 1960s there were hundreds (if not thousands) of companies, large and small, importing items from Japan. In the early 1950s, the bulk of the items were (shall we say) poorly executed and catered solely to foreign tastes. By 1970 the Japanese economy had fully recovered - the exported items became more "art-ish" and confidently reflective of their own sensibilities.
The plate is in a separate post - the other three pieces all date from late 1960s to early 1970s. The labels show one large importer and a couple of obscure ones but do nothing to reveal the Japanese sources. I'm thinking these sources need to be revealed.
The glazes are exceptional Art foot. I think the 60s/70s were golden for great ceramics from Japan, and very affordable.
i really like all of these!
