This item is believed to have been used at my grandfather's garment manufacturing business which was in business in the 1930's to 1950's but that is only a guess from a 96 year old relative.
It is made of wood with a small spring visible in the picture to keep the handles in the closed position. There are no identifying marks or labels anywhere on this item.
Glove opener and sometimes you find with them a talcunm powder shaker, silk gloves tend to be hard to put on. You get them in all materials including bakelite and plastic and horn etc.

My thanks to those members who answered my mystery question, I never would have guessed that as a use for the item.

Is it possible to venture a guess as to when this particular glove stretcher was manufactured? Was there a particular period of time when they were commonly used?
Thank you Gillian, you answered all the questions and the picture in the link is exactly the stretcher I have in question.
