Thank you Gillian, you answered all the questions and the picture in the link is exactly the stretcher I have in question.
Is it possible to venture a guess as to when this particular glove stretcher was manufactured? Was there a particular period of time when they were commonly used?
My thanks to those members who answered my mystery question, I never would have guessed that as a use for the item.
