Most "normal" people I know would run in terror at the thought of acquiring and not burning a 60s shag rug that used orange and pink... NOT ME! This made my brain melt I was so excited. I mean who the heck would think of turning a prehistoric cave painting into a SHAG RUG??? Genius... pure genius... Now for the details: Original 1960s Shag Rug utilizing psychedelic colors and the subject matter? Taken from the Cave Paintings in the Hall of Bulls in Lascaux Cave, France. And to again be clear, this ancient art was used in a 71" x 36" SHAG RUG! Still making my brain explode... Acquired from the original owner from Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom who had this to say: "This has been in the family since the 1960s, so it must be at least that old. In very good condition for its age, apart from some expected wear from being lightly walked over at times (it has not been in constant use). Not sure if it is pure wool or a wool/nylon mixture, there are no makers marks or labels. Measures roughly 71 inches long and 36 inches wide. A stunning addition to any setting, either on a floor or wall hung." Yep, this had to be preserved...
They should have had it on a wall !
I have just bought this exact rug - in a charity shop in Gloucestershire England - and I am also psyched. I think it might be a latch hook rug, made from a kit. I was able to fit it in my washing machine on a wool wash - it worked well.
