I want to understand what is written on my back, what is written on the bottom.
What does this character represent in Japan, what religion does it belong to?
A figurine I bought in Tokyo

I believe its Daruma, and I think its Buddhist, with maybe some Shinto. I cannot read Japanese, but it might express a prayer or a wish/desire of some sort.
Daruma! i love this guy! he is the semi-mythical founder of Zen Buddhism.
Friends, thanks for the information you've added.
I hope and wait for the translation of Scripture
Not scripture, the inscription has the date where this was given from one person to the abbot of a monastery. The name of the monastery is written in white. It would take too much time for me to look for the Japanese names for everything but the date is Showa 53, or 1978, April 23.
