Hi -Rescued this little Prewar locomotive from the scrap heap. I believe it is the Lionel O1E Engine # 53-42. It is a cute little engine and tender - so although I have no idea if it works or not - it still makes a nice display.

Unfortunately - I have not yet found any information on this exact model - so if anyone can supply information or give me a site to
look that would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Gerry

Hi, go to Trains.com and click on Classic Toy Trains (Be careful, they also have "CLASSIC TRAINS". You don't want that one) That will give you a forum chat. You have to subscribe to the website to post a question, but it is free. They are the part of the world that loves Lionel trains.

This was probably mfg before 1939 (pre-war). The reason I agree with you is that the O gauge was introduced in 1915 and replaced by the OO gauge in 1939.

This one, technically, was an 027 gauge, indicated by the 4-digit model number. The O gauge models were 3-digit model numbers. Not all of the O gauge models would run on the 027 track.

      Nice find.

Thanks to everyone for all the "Love" for the little train - that will hopefully become the little train that could actually run.

Thanks also for the information on how to find out more about this specific model.

I will follow up on the suggestions - they are much appreciated.

The engine is the Lionel 001e from 1938-39 - it is apparently rare as it is one of the last of the Lionel engines built to exact scale. This one does respond to an electric impulse - but it does need cleaning and lubricating.

So again thanks for the suggestions - I found someone with a Catalog and was able to find it.

Lionel train set OO gauge New York Central with Hudson Locomotive 001 (cf 5342 on the cab) was produced between 1938 and 1942, only. This is a very appreciate and quite rare set (cf refs 0080 & 0080W dated 1938 specially), even if value 1938 one is not the same with others produced around 1940's. The set was proposed in 2-rail or 3-rail tracks, with 3 or 4 cars depending on model sets and production year ; you know 'everything' ;o)
