I'm kinda thinking this should be the next one of my rings to get an official visit to my local jeweler -- not only to finally get it sized/fixed, but to find out exactly what it is. (or isn't) I don't remember exactly where I got it, but I know I've had it since I was a teenager. I do remember that it was too small to fit my finger back then, so I unfortunately also have to plead "guilty" to being the one who cut it open (w/wire snips) so I could wear it anyway... <sigh><groan>

But whatever, I believe it is a star sapphire flanked by two small diamonds and held in a 10K white gold setting. Inside it is stamped "SIFFARI 10" but there are no other marks that I can see. I'm calling it 'white gold' only because that seems logical, the metal is definitely not 'gold gold' but does have a slight but distinct yellow tinge to its color, and does not look to be plated. It weighs 6.4g. SIFFARI appears to be a Canadian jewelry manufacturer still in business today (now d.b.a. "CRESCENDO JEWELERY") which does show similarly styled rings in their current catalogue, though none just like this one. It also appears that many of their current rings are made with 'synthetic' sapphires -- I don't know whether mine is likewise, or not. The sharply defined 6-pointed 'star' figure within the stone does indeed "move around" following the ambient light source(s) -- in the 1st pic, it actually picked up the camera flash in addition to the sunbeam coming thru the window -- so shows a 'double star'. (I didn't know it could do that?!)

If anybody can tell me anything about it before it goes off to the jeweler, please leave a comment -- I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts!! :-)

OH, CRAP -- prompted by (I think) ho2cultcha's most recent <love it> which brought this back up on the CW homepage for a moment (yesterday?) I'm suddenly realizing I totally failed to offer my gracious THANKS to elanski, Newfld, gargoylecollector, TassieDevil, racer4four, kyratango, valentino97, Caperkid, fortapache, aura, and Collectibles59 for all y'all's *initial* <love its> for this ring -- SORRY, y'all! ;-) :-)

For the record, it still hasn't managed to make it to a jeweler for any further info or to be 'fixed'... <groan> so I'd still welcome anybody's suggestions/info/etc about what it really might be...?? :-)

I've gotta say, this ring can go two ways. Extra special because of the two stars, or the stone is not an actual stone. To me, it absolutely looks like a double star sapphire on white gold. The 'diamonds' could be any one of many stones, there are white sapphires too, but most likely diamonds. And don't feel bad about the cutting... I think we've all done one thing or another to something that many of us have actually ruined. A cut can be repaired. I just can't imagine wearing it like that though because I know how they pinch when broken, especially cut!!! This ring is definitely worth looking into by a trusted jeweler. If you don't have one you use, take it to a couple of them and see what they say. Don't let it out of your sight though! But I think a double sapphire is a very rare thing!

Double star sapphire is what I meant to say.

Folks that have been showing their star sapphire rings in the past few days prompted me to go look again at this one of mine -- more THANKS are now due to ho2cultcha, shareurpassion, Vynil33rpm, & worthit2 for dropping by meanwhiles and leaving your <love it>s -- mucho moreso to shareurpassion for the thoughtful comments! For the record, the ring doesn't usually show two 'stars' (?) like it did in that pic -- only (I believe) because the camera flash created the 2nd star in the pic, where I'd positioned the ring to otherwise catch a sunbeam and reflect just one. Also for the record (and beyond any photo flash accidents?) the star *does* follow whatever light source is prominent...isn't that one of the things that's supposed to tend to suggest it is a "real" stone...??

      Aww crap...I really *do* need to get the thing to a jeweler, don't I... <sigh> ;-) :-)
