This is a large platter that has been in our family since I can remember. I believe it belonged to the side of the family that started the American Trading Company in Japan around 1890. The mark on the back of the platter seems strange. There is a chip in the platter that has turned dark redish brown.

Can anyone tell me about this beautiful platter?

I'd edit your title from Chinese to Japanese. I was told, and evidence does indeed suggest, that those blue rings around the base is Japanese. It seems to usually be only two blue lines around the base, too.
      Gorgeous piece.

Thank you SpiritBear. Japanese does make sense as that was where My GGGrandfather started with his company. I chose to edit the description to a generic Asian.

      Your observations are greatly appreciated!

well i am layman in this, so my meaning is complete immaterial, i tried to substantiate my alleged opinion about this , as a layman it makes complete sense American Trading Company in Japan around 1890 , maybe even slighty earlier, i believe the scene i believe the blue and white, and i believe the garlands
there was an discussion about this between the real hot shots ( which i am not) on the Asian Art Forum about this type of pieces , but i can,t find it anymore ( i really tried, and i think for japanese standards its very well, well done congrats
