Well, it could be a Romadka Bros. trunk and I say could be, because of the three pieces of hardware on each end of the top edge, I believe this is some of there patented hardware, I see it on other Romadka Bros. trunks, I think the corner hardware is also R B, also it has vertical wood slats on the ends, this was done by Romadka Bros., on some of there trunks, but it was also done by others. The other stamped hardware is C. A. Taylor hardware patented in 1880, it is a barrel top trunk, with smooth tin between the wood slats, so it probably was what they called a crystallized tin trunk, looked somewhat like frosted glass, probably gold, seemed to be the most popular color, but there were others, I would guess mid to late 1880's give or take a bit, you will find several patent dates on the hardware of a trunk, a trunk can be no older than the last patent date, but most trunk hardware was used for decades. Hope this helps some, greendog.
Forgot to say, Romadka Bros, were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Thanks you guys for all the info. I am definitely a little more educated. This is a great site, glad to be a member.
