i don't know who Sylvester is, but he sure was talented! what a beautiful little vase - 5 inches tall. Marked on the bottom with 'Not for use with water' and inscribed 'Sylvester 95'. any info greatly appreciated!
Very 'funky'
thanks Collectables! i love it. but it's studio pottery, not american art pottery. will change now.
This is by Laurie Sylwester - a professor at Columbia College. She seems like a very cool woman, from what i read online. i'm proud to own this piece!
So cool.... reminds me of a vivid patchwork quilt!
Thanks Coopergirl. That and the colors drew it to me right away. I keep it close as a favorite.
I made the piece above and am female. My last name is spelled Sylwester. I would love to know where the piece is now, I do not have a photo of it. It was likely purchased at the ACGA Palo Alto Show of the same year. I started doing ceramics in 1971 and had to discontinue this year due to lung damage from clay dust. Now I am trying to collect the work I made!
wow! i really love this piece Laurie, and i had figured out who you are and have looked at many other pieces of yours. these photos also made a splash on the Studio Pottery ID FB page. you can email me at pete@eastbaywilds.com. i'm sorry you had lung damage. you are a very talented pottery designer.
