I have had this for a while and would love to know the manufacturer. I don't see any marks on it. The case is sturdy and green felt lined. Case measures 24" x 17".
The sound from this instrument is wonderful!

I will have to check that out! I have been admiring your jewelry collection on your page. Absolutely great! And I love "your pets"!

The xylophone does have a cool sound, I love jazz and remember seeing old documentary footage of the musician Lionel Hampton, he played one or a similar instrument. Nice post!

Hi cindyjune -- I can't help identify its maker, but I *definitely* remember sets similar to this being used in my grade school (I think?) music classes! (in the 1970's or so, back when public schools still HAD music classes...? <groan>) The individual bars (and a mallet) would be passed out amongst students, who would then be 'conducted' (somehow, I don't really remember how *that* worked?) by the teacher, in order to play some-or-other tune together...thereby ostensibly learning something about music. (and indeed, maybe it kinda worked?!) :-)

You might try searching for 'music education instruments' or somesuch...maybe also "Orff Instruments". (which was a then popular 'newish' idea in music education involving individual tuned percussion instruments, though I don't believe offhand that these xylophones were produced by them as much as maybe 'inspired' by them...??) GOOD LUCK -- I wish it was mine instead!! <lol>
      ;-) :-) ;-) :-)

Thanks for all the comments. Newfld, I have Lionel Hampton in my vinyl collection, love the sound too! And thanks for the clue, AnythingObscure. I hadn't thought about school instruments! Love your comment (wish it were mine!) I feel that about Sooo many things I see on this site!

I found a listing for this instrument, called Vibrobells and they were used in schools, nice catch! Because the keys are removable the student could get only the keys for their song, no wrong notes! Pretty cool!
