A Loetz Phaenomen Gre 8058 (1899) Vase

The shape of this Loetz vase PN=I/8067 follows the Tiffany 'Egyptian Onion Flower' shape, possibly under the impression of the exhibition of Tiffany Favrile glass at Reichenberg and later Vienna in 1897. The Gre 8058 differs from other early 'Phaenomen Genres' like 7501, 7506, or the popular 6893 by a combination of two types of combing the silver yellow glass threadings, here the neck is horizontally covered by a broader band winding downwards, that is cut through by pulled flames of a finely threaded wavy silver yellow glass applied to the bottom part of the highly iridized 'Russian Green' inner cased vase. This very successful shape comes in two different sizes and about three dozen different décors are documented, but Phaenomen Genres were rarely produced. A 'Russian Green' example was shown at the exposition of the 'Bayrische Kunstgewerbe Verein' at Munich, 1898. My vase is signed by the Spaun 'Crossed Arrow' mark with the addition of 'Loetz'. This type of signature was used solely for items presented at the World Exposition 1900 in Paris and/or vases sold there. This might be the reason, why I did acquire my vase from France, too. The vase stands H=19 D=7 cm. A comparable example is exhibited at the 'Western Bohemian Museum', Pilsen as a gift of Max von Spaun and is published in 'Loetz Boehmisches Glas 1880-1940' Vol.1. page 93.53
