I am wondering if this ring was something else in another life, as the shank looks to be younger than the mount. Those tiny blobs of gold look like something that might have attached a bail or some other kind of loop. It also could be an old repair. Definitely old garnets. No marks at all ( CHEEEEEP....) What do you think? Repair or repurposed?

Beautiful ring Bonnie, the garnet stones look chiseled, fabulous design
Old setting! Beautiful.
My thought is it was always a ring, with the size and the curve in the mount.
Image 4; inspect the solder (what colour is it?). Is it soft solder (lead based, melts at lower temperatures) ? Or yellow gold hard solder ?
Settings are closed;impossible to use hard solder after the garnets were set; they would pop out (explode) due to hot air.Looks like only repaired.
IVAN49 - the solder is yellow, so would be gold. It is always possible that the setting was first repaired and then the stones reset. Since it came from a thrift shop, there is no history with it.
Yes Bonnie, I think the stones were removed and reset also, but they did a bad job of resetting, just beat it up. :^(
I don't like saying it but, maybe save the stones, and scrap the gold. Might be the better save! :^)
bill - I'm not bothered by the repair job. The scrap value is only about $35 bucks, so I would rather keep the ring as I wear it all the time. :-)
That works too Bonnie! :^)
I would like to visit your thrift shop!
