These were two finds at the Flea Market this weekend a gold washed 900 silver filigree flower brooch, and a surprise find to me, a Victorian sterling cased Lady's dance card pencil pendant. When I found it the seller, or I didn't know what it was, I thought it was a golfer's pencil watch fob, and the seller had no idea, it was badly tarnished, and he didn't look for a mark, and sold it to me for $2. :^D
The Brooch is 2 1/2"x 1 3/8" and is marked on the back, what looks like 15 CE, but could be 15 GL over 900. The Lady's pencil pendant is 3" and then the loop, and when open the pencil holder is 7/8", and holds a 3/8"x 1/8" flat pencil up to 2 1/2" long, it's marked STERLING then a square block with "H" in it, and no other marks.

Thank you for looking, any comments, info., or questions welcome! :^)

That could be it Kevin, it's the same, but there's a line in center of the right side of the square, on mine, and I don't know if it's part of the mark, or just a line! I'll check out some of his pieces and see! Thanks, and for the love too! :^)

I couldn't really find any jewelry made by Hirsch, and not sure if he was manufacturing that early, 1890-1920 or so? :^)

Lovely little finds. The pencil is a carpenters pencil. Dance card pencils were usually more ornate cylindrical and often had a tassle attached.

Thank you for your comment, Collectables59! I'm new to this type of jewelry, and just learned how it was worn, on a necklace with other pieces like a tiny note pad, scissors, nail file, perfume, and the such. A few of us talked about it being a Carpenter's pencil, and being a Carpenter myself, for over 30years, I couldn't imagine having to use a pencil, in a case, on a chain, to mark anything, let alone a line, on a piece of wood, that said, I guess a jeweler might think differently, but like I said earlier, it could have been a mans pencil, on a watch fob, just not for this Carpenter! :^D

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to look at, and love these new jewelry finds of mine,

Flea markets are such a great place to find treasures !!! I never pass a yard sale or a Flea market :)
    9. billretirecoll billretirecoll, 7 years ago
Yes they are Trey! :^D I've slowed on hitting the garage sales, but go to the Flea early morning, every weekend. If I see a garage/yard sale, I will usually stop, but have stopped chasing signs, and finding out that the sale was weeks ago, because the sellers, never took their signs down, besides I REALLY ! ! ! don't have the room, for more, another reason to cut back!
Thanks for the love too, Trey! :^)

Definitely a carpenters pencil holder. Google carpenters pencil holder and look on images. Lots of them, some of them can be very valuable especially the Sampson Mordan ones. Neil
    14. billretirecoll billretirecoll, 7 years ago
Thanks Neil, I saw those, but seemed more commonly called a pencil that is on Chatelaine Ring, whether it was a Carpenter's pencil or not, like I said, you wouldn't have seen me with one, and probably been fired if the boss saw you pull one out to use! :^)
