Iwatsu produced quite a lot of art glass in mixed colours, a decor generally known as rainbow glass.
This is my largest piece and one of my favourites because of the intense colour and the easy to see graduation of the colours.
I'm not sure if they started with clear glass and added to it, but the colours are all derived from pink, yellow and blue glass, which when mixed creates the greens, oranges and purples. It's beautifully done and I would imagine would require an experienced glass blower to get the mix right.
The bowl itself is clear cased and as can be seen has been moulded into a 5 pointed star at the base. After that moulding and moving the punty to the base, the glass has been drawn up into the 5 petals. All are different and it is clearly hand worked.
The base has been flat ground, and if you look carefully you will see a chamfer has been ground to the base edge.
This would be 1970s production.
