Hi Mike, welcome to CW - that's a really great badge collection, each has a different unique beauty (or shall I say, handsomeness), I find the railroad police badge especially interesting as my late grandpa was a car repairman foreman for @ 50 yrs - they used to give out lifetime train passes to ride free for the entire family way back when

Thanks Jenni... I appreciate your nice comments.
Hi, I picked up a Chicago Police Pie Plate badge with the maker Meyer and Wenthe. It looks like some of your pictures. It was advertised as a 1905 Badge. There is not a scratch on it though and it is very shinny. Does this sound legitimate? 1100 series applied copper numbers. I was just surprised at the condition. Thanks
Eddie
Depends on the banner and city seal. If the banner is more square you may have a “pagoda”. Starting in 1907 Chicago changed the design. The first 6 months of 07 have a city seal that resembles a pointed shield. The Indian and the ship are also reversed when you compare it to the seal in use today. The shield is also more squared after June of 07. A lot of the badges were also polished frequently as they were nickel originally. Over the years some guys dipped them in chrome to avoid polishing for inspections. All of this effects the value. I’d be happy to take a look if you have pictures.
