This 2" all rhinestone on silvertone brooch is shaped like a crown, with an interesting history. The B David jewelry co (1945-1993) made most of these crowns to order as "mother's " brooches, where the pear shaped stones would be colored with the children's birthstones a la the mother's rings, and the remainder of the brooch would have pearls & clear iridescent AB stones. The birthstones seen here include sapphires, garnet, topaz, amethyst & pink tourmaline. This particular crown could represent other family members and grandchildren.
Such a pretty brooch Jenni and I love the concept that the pear coloured stones would represent the children's birthstones :)
Would make for a great conversation piece!
But wait, how many children does that mean the woman that previously owned this brooch had, because I'm counting a LOT of coloured stones there and picturing one tired woman.... ;)
Super thanks for the luv

Hopefully the wearer only bought this for its beauty and not as a reminder that she should have more children, nice use of the stones !~
Enjoyed the fun comments Kerri & Phil, thanks so much

I once rented a room from a woman who birthed 14 children, all lived. And, don’t forget the “19 kids and counting folks!”
RhinestoneFan, I am in awe of someone with fourteen kids!
Newfld, this is a beautiful brooch. I had owned B.David jewelry in the past altho I can't remember now what the piece was. Thanks for sharing that information about the company, that makes each piece of jewelry unique!
Thanks Katherine for the super comment & love, yes B David made very unique and lovely jewelry not only the mother's gems type - I particularly like the way their rhinestones are smaller than average but high quality & precision set
Thank you RhinestoneFan for your fun & informative comment, wow 14 is a lotta kids! My Italian grandfather was supposed to marry a girl back in Italy who ended up having 19 children (birth control was not practiced by strict Catholics back then) but he came to America & married my grandmother & they had (whew) 3 kids, he was eternally grateful he made the right choice lol!
This is a lovely brooch! I remember reading up on these a year or two ago. One listing on Etsy (now not found) actually included the original packaging with instructions on selecting the colours. I see some listings also include matching earrings, too - a parure of sorts. Really beautiful.
Thank you rhineisfine for the super compliments on this B David crown, glad you liked it. I don't remember which site I got it from, just that there were many others but this crown seemed so balanced with colored rhinestones - it seems if you only had two children for example, they would only use 2 colored stones & make all the rest clear or AB, so either this owner had a large family or requested stone repeating. Interesting, & I'm wondering if B David was the first co to start with the children's birthstones for mom idea
@Newfld, that's a good question. I know that if I had the chance of a custom-made brooch, the heck with the kids, I'd just choose the colours I like :) Perhaps there were a few customers out there who did the same. If my surname were King or Queen, for sure I'd do that!
Anyway, that's really interesting about the use of "clear rhinestones as filler if you have too few kids", I didn't know that. I'll be looking at these brooches a little differently in future. Thank you!
With special thanks for the love

Thanks again rhineisfine for more creative thoughts, I totally agree that I'd rather pick my fave rhinestone colors for the crown instead of the kids BDs lol!! I looked again at some other crowns online, it seems many chose repeater color stones to balance out their crowns, a much better idea than just one or two color the rest AB, am I right :)
Many thanks for the kind love
