Picked up this trunk several weeks ago, shown as found. There are two different types of wood in alternating narrow strips. It has the original interior tray and sellers label on the inside both are usually missing.. J R Harlacher Harness Trunks and Bags Dayton OH is the interior label. Trunk is approximately 28 by 19 and 22 high. Can't read the patent date on the hinges, they are the style that hold the lid from going past a 90 degree angle. Not sure if the label inside was the trunk maker, this looks like a Martin Maier style. Wood shows some wear but nothing to bad. I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can get outside and sand and clean this one up. This will be added to my collection, no room but will find room for this beautiful trunk someplace. Trying to find out if this is a Martin Maier hoping the trunk experts on this site can help with that.

Definitely Martin Maier hinges, patented 1879, I was surprised not to see a Martin Maier label in it,I don't think he sold his patents on his hardware to anyone and I know M.M. made trunks for other company's such as Beals and Selkirk, very nice trunk, can't wait to see it when you get done, greendog.

No room, who are you kidding. There is always room for one more. LOL

Nice trunk, very similar to this one on Marvin Millers site.

Thanks for the love. greendog - based on the hinges I assumed it was a MM trunk, but wasn't sure. I didn't have any Martin Maier trunks in my collection, now it seems I do. I've admired the great work you've done on the ones you have.

FatBoy64 I've seen the one on Marvin's page, I follow him and Jim to see the beautiful work they do. Marvin's trunk is in amazing condition. The one I have shows signs of use but for the age it is great. Looking forward to spring so I can get started on fixing it up.

Hi Kathy,I concur with Greendog they are Martin Maier patented hinges.
Some thoughts: The label says J.R. Harlacher manufacurer and "DEALER" in Harness, Trunks and bags. This manufacturer may have made his own trunks or being a dealer he could have sold other peoples goods,He could have just placed his label on the inside lid, or possibly had an agreement to place his label on the items.

Above is the link to the trunk that I posted a while back, many interesting similarities, they are essentially the same item. So very glad that you found one.
I'm sure it will be wonderful when you are done.

Wow Drill, with the exception of the lock, they are twins inside and out, greendog.

In my opinion, both of these trunks were made by the same co. and my vote goes to Martin Maier, greendog.
