I have some antique tool items on my garage wall that I have no idea what they are. My late husband had a collection. I just thought I would ask you. I have googled images however nothing like this shows up. He was a carpenter and loved old carpentry tools so my assumption is something in that area. Handle measure 52 inches.
    Thank you so much.

I believe what you have is a log roller. If you Google antique log roller similar ones will come up.

Phonoboy You are talking about a cant hook or peavey used in logging. I have rolled a good many logs with both but the law on this is to small and I never in 70 years saw one with a spring loaded grip. I sooner thing this is a grabber.

I don't think it is heavy enough to be a log roller either, so my guess is you have an old grabber, possibly used to grab cans and such off a high shelf, in a country store setting. Just my guess tho.

It looks like a dandelion picker to me.
