By vintage I mean I am not sure how old it is but it has a vintage look. He is about a foot tall maybe more. I would measure but he is outside and it is dark and 31 degrees.
Cast iron lawn gnomes are among the finest of lawn gnomes as they do not crack in freezing weather or get crushed by snow. Also no chipping or breaking when they fall over. Most current lawn gnomes are made out of resin and are rather fragile. Some are plaster and tend to dissolve a bit in rain and snow. Cast iron tends to rust but that just makes them look better. The one downfall is that cast iron gnomes don't have a base, just feet. Thus they fall over now and then especially as my yard is sloped. That and the ground is spongey.
This is from my rather productive two and a half hours at the Long Beach Antique Flea Market.

Very nice Fort, is it related to the Travelocity gnome?
    6. fortapache fortapache, 7 years ago
Thank you very much Rick55. His cousin the Travelocity gnome can be seen above and to the right of the cast iron gnome.

thanks for posting this. i have this exact same one along with 6 other cast iron gnomes. the only problem i have w/ these is that their paint fades quickly and they look very washed out after a few seasons outdoors. [i have the opposite problem and the more i stay outside, the darker i get!]

Thank you very much racer4four. I may have more mushroom stew.

Thank you very much ho2cultcha. The sun here is very strong here so paint does tend to fade quickly. It may depend on the paint because some fade and some don't. Anyway snow is a bigger problem as it crushes, cracks and or dissolves. I turn darker and redder in the sun.
