I love this picture. The faces tell a story about the life they've led. It's big 56 in tall and 38 in wide. It's oil on canvas and the frame looks homemade.

To me this looks awesome and I get a feeling it is a dark version of Grant's " American Gothic "

Another Watanabe worked with Dave Cockrum, Joe Sinnott : Irv Watanabe aka ITOSHI IRVING “IRV” WATANABE

I'm with Caperkid's (dark version of Grant's "American Gothic").... I do love this art piece, thanks for sharing!!

Just a thought .... Earl Watanabe might have been a pseudonym used by ITOSHI IRVING “IRV” WATANABE.

There are a few Watanabes in Hawaii... (everyone in Honolulu thinks of Watanabe Florists when they hear the name).

..... and Constructions. I think I have seen five Earl Watanabe's.

The impression I have is that Irv Watanabe was mainly a letterer for Marvel .... perhaps his talents as an illustrator were eclipsed by Dave Cockrum .... lettering paid the bills ???

      Inside American Gothic ???

The one I posted says in a profile that he went to California art school, (so the painting would have been painted when he was 21) but he went into home design and became a builder/construction company owner. So I think it may be multiple accounts of the same person, just moving down the island chain.

Watanabe is a persistent name at Marvel comics too : Wraith .... Yuri Watanabe.

With the popularity of Manga, I’m not surprised.
